You can't eat it, build with it, drink it, drive it or watch movies on it. I think at those times that I'm nuts to accumulate physical gold.

Then I think about the last six thousand years of recorded history. People during all that time found gold as equally non-useful for virtually anything...

Except, of course, for a store of value, at which is has an unparalleled track record.

Then I go buy another coin. Or two.

- PeteAnonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-11719208.post-1150501262606288442006-06-16T16:41:00.000-07:002006-06-16T16:41:00.000-07:00If doomfreak reality comes to pass, gold will be c...If doomfreak reality comes to pass, gold will be completely worthless. Measuring the value of a currency by the price of gold seems archaic in today's economy. I would argue gold no longer retains its historical standardizing property, because ultimately people and economies value other things more directly.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-11719208.post-1150492144638717112006-06-16T14:09:00.000-07:002006-06-16T14:09:00.000-07:00Sincere question: does anyone know of a fiat curre...Sincere question: does anyone know of a fiat currency where inflation was successfully stopped and reversed?Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-11719208.post-1150491645687889132006-06-16T14:00:00.000-07:002006-06-16T14:00:00.000-07:00what a thoughtful analysis ben -- i'm convinced --...what a thoughtful analysis ben -- i'm convinced -- i'm dumpin everything monday amAnonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-11719208.post-1150487806142165102006-06-16T12:56:00.000-07:002006-06-16T12:56:00.000-07:00Gold? Next stop $500, then watch it fall like a set of car keys out the window from the 87th floor.

Clearly gold has become disconnected from fundamentals and is in the process of reverting to the mean, as all asset classes must. What goes up must come down. Don't catch a falling knife or fall for a dead cat bounce.

Gold should hit resistance and come in for a nice soft landing at about $400.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-11719208.post-1150481284081310962006-06-16T11:08:00.000-07:002006-06-16T11:08:00.000-07:00It is simply unforgiveable for those in Washington...It is simply unforgiveable for those in Washington to be doing what they are currently doing regarding spending. There is now an ingrained belief not only on the part of government, but for companies and individuals, that debt doesn't matter and that things will somehow all work out in the end. The legacy that the current generation leaves to the younger generation is pitiful and someday the piper will have to be paid, but no one cares about that day as long as we can borrow enough to get through the next day. Where does it end.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.com
