Most people can only afford modest homes, but most areas only allow expensive McMansions to be built.<br /><br />Loaning money to people who don't repay moved the McMansions for awhile, but people who repay can't afford to buy them. Now that banks are being forced to stop loaning to people who don't repay, the McMansion market is over. Foreign savers won't buy private securitized mortgages to people who don't repay anymore.<br /><br />The only way to move McMansions now if for the taxpayers to agree to repay other people's loans (via GSE).
