The gold price over Thanksgiving

For some reason, there are larger and larger gains in the price of gold during the Thanksgiving holiday almost every year in the new decade.
With the recent volatility, who knows where things will end up today, but so far, the trend remains intact.

I updated the chart to reflect the closing price on Friday - I've noticed this Thanksgiving surge the last couple of years and it was even more dramatic this year.
And yet development of one of the most significant new gold/copper fields in the world is being suspended as "uneconomic".

Not sure if that is a statement about the current Dutch Disease in Canada, or what.
