Ron Paul on the AIG bonuses

Monday, March 23, 2009

Rep. Ron Paul (R-Texas) talks about how everyone can go back to their districts and tell their constituents how tough they were on the Wall Street "bad guys" while much larger problems continue to fester - those weren't exactly his words, but they're close (via Patrick.net).

yada yada yada, i tell ya. i love ron paul. but he pulled out of the race too fast and he got all that money and so far as done nothing with it to help the american people. he is 74 years old. his race is about run. he is a tiny voice crying in the wilderness tha no one hears. his campaign seemed to never get off the ground and perhaps that was sabotage, who knows. so now he is one man, a old man, standing in congress and voting for pork barrel projects for his own district. i ask you. how is this helping to change things? it is time he comes home to run for governor of the state of texas. washington is lost. now we must focus on the local level and defend against what is to come. either we accept that gd piece(as bush called it) of paper as real, or , is the constitution just some old relic of the american history, sitting on shelf somewhere in the smithstonian, collecting dust. perhaps as americans we must take it out and dust it off and look at it and think about what is said there. what has happened in this country now, is without historical precedent. yet our representation there does not care what we think and votes the way they want. we have redress of grievances. our courts make a mockery of justice, and we have no rememdy in them. when these things occur, what must be done? let us see what jefferson said shall we?

"... God forbid we should ever be twenty years without such a rebellion. The people cannot be all, and always, well informed. The part which is wrong will be discontented, in proportion to the importance of the facts they misconceive. If they remain quiet under such misconceptions, it is lethargy, the forerunner of death to the public liberty.... And what country can preserve its liberties, if it's rulers are not warned from time to time, that this people preserve the spirit of resistance? Let them take arms. The remedy is to set them right as to the facts, pardon and pacify them. What signify a few lives lost in a century or two? The tree of liberty must be refreshed from time to time, with the blood of patriots and tyrants. It is its natural manure."

There's something in it what Ron Paul was saying. Most people can't distinguish between million, billion and trillion, and there's the root of the problem: millions involved in AIG bonuses seem somewhat more important than billions or trillions involved in less obvious but never the less scandals.

God save America..
