Celebrate the commodities
Wednesday, January 02, 2008
This was in one of the local newspapers the other day, prior to today's surge in prices where investors have apparently started to "celebrate the commodities" early in 2008.The theme for the 2008 Calaveras County Fair & Jumping Frog Jubilee held May 14 through 18 will be "Heard it through the Bovine".
Live cattle ended 2007 up four percent and are about even today.
Last year's theme for the annual event was, "The Frogs are Hopping and the Grapes are Stomping".
"Every year we have a theme, and the Board of Directors decided that we should celebrate the commodities in Calaveras County," said Frogtown Facility Marketing Director Laurie Giannini. "Last year it was grapes, this year it will be cattle, and the next will be timber."
The board plans each theme three years out from the actual fair date, and the area residents are encouraged to submit slogan ideas.

I am not an oil market watcher, but today was extremely funny. All the talk and written pieces lambasted the evil "speculators" that are pushing up oil prices with no regard to fundamentals. The same folks also would like to remind you to reignite speculative home buying to support prices that have no basis under any fundamental measure. Speculation is bad unless its good? No wonder I am confused!
Yeah, that's pretty funny. You'll know that we've turned a corner when Maria starts talking about the oil ETF and the gold ETF in addition to the commodity prices themselves.
