Back from Pennsylvania
Saturday, October 29, 2005
After an enjoyable time with family and friends in Pennsylvania, we are now back in sunny Southern California. With plenty of precipitation and a good chill in the air, the clouds parted long enough to snap a few pictures of changing fall colors and a landscape very different from that to which we have become accustomed in the southwest.
First, a pond near Camelback in the Poconos, where memories of learning to ski on Marjie's Delight come flashing back:

And, a view of Jim Thorpe from high atop Flagstaff Road:

Much more interesting than the scenery were lengthy discussions on a variety of topics with those who are older and wiser. From stories of ancestors fighting in the Civil War or working in Sicilian mines prior to crossing the Atlantic in steerage, to what it was like growing up during the Great Depression then living through what history will likely regard as America's best years, new perspectives on today's events are gained.
We will soon be back about the business of commenting on our economy - much has happened in the last week and there is much to say.
