And ... we have another winner!

Friday, June 29, 2007

Today's closing prices for oil and gold were $70.45 and $647.50, respectively, making DR the winner of the second "Guess the Price of Oil and Gold" contest.

The first contest concluded at the end of 2006 with closing prices of $61.05 and $636.00, respectively, for a 15.4 percent gain in the price of oil and a modest 1.8 percent gain in the yellow metal.

DR wins a one-year subscription to Iacono Research, where the commodities-based model portfolio ended the first half of 2007 up about eight percent. Here's the final result in graphic form.

Nearly everyone has been surprised at the price of gold lately - most thought the upper $600 range more likely. The average guess of $68 for crude oil was not far from the mark.

A list of the top-ten finishers (out of about three dozen guesses) shows that the finish was not quite as close as last time, DR stealing it from MT in the last week. Check out who came in 6th with a slim 0.50% error for crude oil (don't look too closely at the guess for gold).

Honorable mention goes to yendor with bold guesses that were a combined 29.39 percent off ($80 oil and $750 gold), just edging out TJ & the Bear's 29.27 percent error ($55 oil and $600 gold).

Thanks to all who participated - this contest will be repeated at the end of the year starting sometime in October.

Anyway, DR- congratulations.

Please send me mail so I can get an account set up for you.
