The Presidential Cannabis?
Friday, January 04, 2008
As is the custom around here when major equity markets have big down days, the TV was tuned to CNBC to listen in on some of the post-game analysis after the Dow Jones Industrial Average lost 257 points and the Nasdaq plunged almost four percent. Ouch!
Melissa Francis was sitting in for Money Honey Maria Bartiromo on Closing Bell and there was the usual hand-wringing with the usual crew of Jim Liesman, Ron Insana, and Larry Kudlow.
Insana and Kudlow begged for a half-point inter-meeting rate cut from the Fed in the continuing belief that lower interest rates will solve many of the worlds problems (of course, along with lower taxes).
Parroting the Fed line, Liesman talked about being vigilant against inflation and keeping "inflation expectations" in check.
That was pretty funny.
Funnier yet was a slip of the tongue by Melissa Francis as she left those three CNBC talking heads to turn her attention to talking heads in politics.
A video clip played and Hillary said, "Unemployment is up. I predict to you that we are just at the beginning of a very tough economic year."
Good call - did Hillary make Predictions for 2008?
Then Melissa began her segue to something about politics that I never did see or hear because first, I had to confirm what it was she said with the help of a faithful (seven-year-old?) Tivo, and then I had to write this post.
A big grin and toothy smile adorned Melissa's face after she uttered, "Well, it's on to New Hampshire for the Presidential cannabis ... candidates. The economy is likely to become a bigger factor in the race for the White House..."
That was pretty funny.

I would love to see a video clip of that :)
Funny..
I am wondering what the CNBC analysts are smoking.
CNBC keeps telling people straight out, "Do not invest in Gold Bullion!! - unless of course you decide to invest in "GLD' "
c'Mon, that's got to be illegal!! I mean really!
Utter BS
I became a registered broker in '00 and have been consistently let down by this channel ever since.
I hate CNBC
She was alluding to the dopes.
After all the years of being driven nuts by Larry Kudlow, it's been fun lately watching his baffled suffering.
CNBC is a "greater fool" factory.
The problems caused by creating free money will be solved by creating more free money!
I'm with you and Safire- all the talking heads and politicos should put their verifiable predictions out there for our review.
