On the road again...

Wednesday, June 25, 2008

We've been having a look around in Southern Oregon for the last few days, hence the somewhat sporadic posting. Anyone with any tips on the area is encouraged to leave them in the comments section.

So far, our impression is that it is a lot like Northern California with more of the good qualities and less of the bad ones (of course you have to be away from the freeway to see any of these qualities).

Paying no sales tax rocks! I just hope that internet service is a lot faster in the rest of the state than it is in our hotel room.

Been thinking about retiring in Vancouver, Wash. -- no state income tax (except for income earned in Oregon). Go across the bridge to Portland and pay no sales tax. Very low crime rates in the suburbs. House prices are very low compared to Calif. Only disadvantage compared to Calif. is the overcast weather. Rainfall is not that bad -- 20-40" depending on the micro climate.

Visit Crater Lake if you can. It's just east of Medford and Ashland.

No tax, that's the way it should be. Whatever we pay tax for, it's not worth it. I hope I get to see the whole thing blow sky high.

Hi Tim, check out the steamboat inn, stay there if you can. It's at Steamboat on rt 138, the Umpqua Highway. Beautiful country. There are about a half dozen fantastic short hikes nearby that lead to waterfalls.

You should drive up to Sisters if you have time.

My favorite part of the country...

I just loved Grizzly Pizza in Bend. Of course it's been 35 years.

Never been to a real cave so I found the underground tour of Oregon caves to be interesting.

Will you stop going on vacation? Every time you do something awful happens to the market!
