Harry Dent's dire predictions

Tuesday, December 30, 2008

This was spotted over at Patrick.net. I've heard the name before but don't know anything more about him than what appears at Wikipedia which is none too flattering.

Hey the 00's were "roaring" for half of the decade... the glass is half full!

There's some legitimacy to a "relief rally" he discusses, but he doesn't really explain why it is going to happen, so I question whether much of a rally is inevitable.

My main worry is that now the recession/depression dynamics of liquidation and job loss are taking over. I don't see "relief" manifesting for many people around me.

The stock market might rally, but that would be the least impactful sort of rally that could happen.

We're already having a more rapid and severe crash than the Great Depression -- it makes sense, since credit reached unprecedented levels. So that is another basis for questioning any historically-based specific notinos of timing.

Mr. Dent only pitched his new book.

The video seemed to be leading up to another pitch :-)

Another commentator has a rather interesting theory, that what matters is following the number of 9 (nine) year olds as it is that that drives demographics in most places. Then in countries with high immigration that may be less relevant, but usually that seems a sound approach.
