The Las Vegas Gold Debate
Wednesday, December 10, 2008
A video and transcript of the September gold conspiracy debate between Bill Murphy and Tim Wood is now available online. It is well worth a listen or a look.
I was in the audience at the time and the debate took more than a few interesting turns, even more so when when the audience participation segment began.
As for the debate itself, Bill Murphy's comments centered around the voluminous evidence compiled by GATA including comments by former Fed chairmen Paul Volcker and Alan Greenspan regarding gold sales and details of the Blanchard case against Barrick Gold that, sadly, was dismissed on a technicality a few years back.
Tim Wood's arguments were more along the lines of "the gold conspiracy crowd is hurting the gold market" rather than a counter to the conspiracy claims which made for something of a disappointing debate as per the title, but raised some very important issues in the process.
You can learn a great deal about the gold market - not just about the price of gold but about the business of gold mining as well - by listening to these two.

I was also in the audience. The gold dealer's comment that physical bullion was impossible to obtain said it all.
