Three months in a row means what?

Not long ago I ran across some commentary about yesterday's existing home sales where an analyst was not swayed by a one- or two-month improvement in sales, but was supremely convinced that an improvement stretching three months was something special.
It turns out it's not. In late-2006 and early-2007 there were two such three-month improvements before thing really got ugly.
