Another contest, ninety days risk-free
Friday, May 11, 2007
The one-year anniversary of the companion website Iacono Research will arrive shortly and, being the sentimental fool that I am, it seems like some sort of recognition is in order.
Since no one will be blowing up any party balloons around here, this post is about the extent of the festivities planned to commemorate the website launch last May (actually, the anniversary date is next Tuesday but I'll be at The Money Show in Las Vegas, hence the reason for today's extravaganza.)
Guess the mid-year price of oil and gold
So much fun was had at the end of last year that another contest is being offered as summer approaches. For those who dare, guess the mid-year closing price for oil and gold and whoever is closest will win a free one-year subscription to Iacono Research (current subscribers can win a free one-year extension).
The combined percentage differences between the guessed values and the closing prices on June 29th will determine a winner. Entries may be made either by posting them in the comments section of this post or sending mail to either tim-at-iaconoresearch.com or tliacono-at-yahoo.com. All entries must be received no later than one week from today (a reminder will be provided next Friday).
The final results from the contest concluded in December are shown below.
Good luck to all. Only one guess per person please. TJ? I'm looking for big numbers.
Ninety days risk-free
Due to the number of individuals who have requested a two-week extension to the two-week free trials that have been offered over the last year, free trials are now being extended to a full 30 days.
Combining the longer free trial period with the 60-day money back guarantee provides a "risk-free" period of 90 days for new subscribers. To start a free trial, click here.
Another success story
Even after yesterday's pull-back, the model portfolio is still up about nine percent on the year and has gained a total of roughly 36 percent since it was formalized in January of 2006.
One of the many success stories is Tournigan Gold (OTC: TVCZF, TSX: TVC), the uranium miner with the gold company name (as many of them are these days). The share price rose 35 percent on Tuesday after they announced that their uranium resource almost tripled to a total of 50 million pounds of U308.
There have been a number of pleasant surprises like this in the last year and, given a booming global economy, there are sure to be many more.
A one day special, next week
If all goes well with the laptop and the hotel internet connection, next Tuesday on the official anniversary date, the introductory rate of $99 will be offered once again for one day only.
If you are interested in this service, I encourage you to sign up for a free trial between now and then so you can have a look around. More importantly, the special rate will be extended to all those who are on free trials as of next Tuesday through the duration of their free trial period.
Full Disclosure: Long Tournigan Gold at time of writing.

As before, the oil price will be closing price of the near-month (August) WTI crude contract on the Nymex and the gold price will be the closing spot price on the COMEX in New York.
OK I'll be first again you cowards.
oil - $72

Geez Tim,
Hate to disappoint you, but this year I'm going the other way: $55 & $600.
Why low this time? Everything's starting to fall apart now, and there's a good possibility of a decent market selloff in June that would drag everything else down with it as all the hedgies unwind. [If so, it'll be a great time to buy!]
p.s.: It's not that I wouldn't really like a subscription, but I'm just not into making "safe" picks. My picks are like me; they have to stand out from the crowd.
Because it's too devilish to resist:
Gold: $666
WTIC: $66.60
Gold: 694
Crude: 68.5
Gold: $686
Oil: $69.25
Gold: $580
Oil: $62
Gold: $675

Larry said....
Gold: $ 662
Oil: $ 62.40
Let's see how I do this time...
Gold: $720
Oil: $68
Gold $800.00
Oil $80.00

Hope you didn't mean the "end of the (trading) day".
My wild guess:
Oil: 76
Gold 712
