When asked by reporters last week, Federal Reserve Chairman Ben Bernanke indicates the total dollar value of all "untainted" assets currently on the central bank's balance sheet.

If he'd used a different finger, Bernanke's statement would have also encompassed his feelings toward savers and wage earners.
