Schiff to deliver keynote in San Francisco

Monday, November 10, 2008

This just in... Peter Schiff (the other Dr. Doom) has signed on to deliver the keynote address at the San Francisco Hard Assets Investment Conference later this month.

In addition to the keynote at around noon on Sunday, November 30th, he will also host a two-hour workshop later in the day.
IMAGEAs noted here before, I'll be speaking at this conference on Sunday afternoon as well and then participating in a panel discussion early on Monday morning.

If you haven't been to an event like this before, it's a great opportunity to hear many great speakers talking about natural resource markets and registration is free.

I've got mixed feelings about Peter. His "Crash" call was pretty good but his "Proof" part wasn't so hot. Tim, if you have not already heard this, have a listen to one of his clients: Wow! Peter Schiff Feeling the Pressure! Client Down 500K!? Whoa!

Without the benefit of hindsight, how do you tell the difference between being early and being wrong?

rp, I heard Schiff's angry caller live when the show aired. I remember wondering aloud how a guy that dumb could have amassed such a sum of wealth in the first place.

I don't recall Schiff ever promising "your portfolio will never drop in value, ever!".

He's in it for the long haul and is clear about not trying to time the market in the short run or "trade". It's easy to criticize any stock picks in hindsight.

I have very little doubt that gold, oil, commodites ( a big part of the Schiff solution) will be way up in a few years vs US stocks and the dollar. And Foreign stocks should recover as well, though they were the one part of his thesis I was not convinced about. Still, if they are solid companies paying dividends, they too will be considered good choices in retrospect.

It's been just a few months since oil and gold topped, so let's give the hysteria a rest. They're volatile, it comes with the territory.
