ISM Manufacturing Index hits 27-year low
Monday, December 01, 2008
A short time ago, the Institute for Supply Management reported that the nation's broadest measure of manufacturing activity reached levels last seen in 1981.
Recall that readings above and below 50 indicate expansion and contraction, respectively, and that the low-40s range is typically considered "recession territory". It's not clear whether there is a name for the high-30s range.
