More polish on the Goldman shine - Part 63

Thursday, February 11, 2010

In tonight's PBS NewsHour, Paul Solman looks at the inner workings of everyone's favorite investment bank - Goldman Sachs - and how, maybe, they don't really do God's work.

With only one-tenth of its revenues coming from investment banking last year, it's hard to argue that they are anything other than a "hedge fund masquerading as a bank". "God's work" or the "Financial God's work" - what's the difference, really?

Stockman says "Get over it, of course they're stealing from everybody. That's the way things are done!" That money is not coming out of the sky it's ultimately coming out of the pockets of average people with pensions, 401k's. bank accounts, and tax bills. When are more people going to get pissed at the right target.

Gods work? Would that include the
Drowning of the world? The burning of Sodom and Gomorrah? The plagues unleashed on the world?

God does many cruel and heartless things for an omnipotent, omniscient and omnipresent being.

Yes, Goldman may do Gods work, but
what work is that?
