I'm German - I have no debt

What went through the minds of the editors of Money Magazine whey this little graphic crossed their desk prior to appearing in their November issue?
Next to an article about how Americans can reduce debt, now that it appears we will not be able to borrow and spend in perpetuity based on rising home prices, there must have been subliminal motivation here.
Or, maybe not.

Our Country's attitude toward debt really makes me sick. How can anyone read those 3 quotes and not think that the first quote is the correct way to live???
This addiction to credit from both our Government and people is giving the rest of the world a chance to knock us off the top. A lot of people, in the past, have sacrificed their lives and worked extremely hard to put us on top of the world. Now I feel that we are throwing that all away. Our Country seems like the spoiled rich kid that has to have everything at this moment and doesn't know a thing about sacrifice.
The German quote is intersting. History moves in mysterious fashion. The Great Reckoning we are about to experience may make Americans henceforth as genetically disinclined to borrow as Teutons are to tolerate inflation because of Weimar.

Too much debt? Stupid creditors! Time for a default party. Yay!
Moin from Germany,
i think our attitude is shifting and the quote is not reflecting the entire picture (unfortunately)
