Big percentage gains not what they appear

Wow! Look at those REITs go! If not for that right-most column in this weekly WSJ summary of asset class moves, you'd think that REIT owners would be quite pleased right now. But, that +21.2 percent move only succeeded in improving last week's 52-week plunge of 62 percent eight percentage points to the current 52-week decline of 54 percent.
Boy, the dollar and gold are sure hanging out a lot together lately...
